Sir: John Horsnell, chief executive of the Isle of Wight County Council (Letters, 7 January), refers to the statement 'Malta is half the size of the Isle of Wight' as an example of how his island is 'recognised as a unit of measurement'.
For the sake of clarification, I would like to inform you that Malta's total area is 122 square miles, meaning that Malta is only slightly smaller than the Isle of Wight.
Yours faithfully,
A. GALEA
