From The Rev B. A. Hopkinson

Sir: Martin Castle (Letters, 11 August) asks about the labelling attached to vicars' children. I can talk about the reciprocal. My father was in the Indian civil service in the days of the Raj. When I tell people that I was born in what is now Pakistan, the response frequently is "your parents were missionaries, I suppose", as though that is the only genus that could give birth to a priest.

Yours faithfully,

B. A. Hopkinson
