Sir: The fact that the British Army is soon to be the biggest single contributor to Unprofor in Bosnia-Herzegovina says more about American weakness than British determination.

Throughout the Bosnian conflict, the US attitude has been one of a back- seat, gung-ho driver. It should now be made clear that if the US government fails to help its Nato allies in their hour of need, then it will be the end of Nato as we know it, and the "new world order" will leave the US as just another bit part player of little importance.
