Letter: Bosoms are out

WHILE THE 'solid male bastion' image of garages ('Step down, page 3 girls', 4 October) is perpetuated by the likes of Julian Royle and assorted soaps, a few suppliers will continue to send out 'girlie' calendars each year.

EastEnders Phil and Grant are rapidly disappearing from the real world, supplanted by skilled technicians. From management down, gender now has little relevance in this increasingly professional industry. (Kwik Fit is apparently recruiting female fitters).

Apart from the rise in social awareness within the industry, including the trade press, which now carries fewer semi-clad advertisements than the average Sunday magazine, it must be obvious that most customers, both male and female, would find such images distasteful and degrading.
