Letter: Breathe in...

Hyperventilation not only affects asthmatics but in its chronic form is the main channel through which fears and anxieties are transformed into bodily symptoms ("Hyperventilation...", Real Life, 5 October). Dr Lum's breathing control exercises produce excellent results, and I have successfully treated many patients with them over the past 15 years. A useful book for lay-people is The Hyperventilation Syndrome by Dinah Bradley.
