WHAT IS wrong with Ms Sykes and Ms Lines (Letters, 30 August)? People are wary of asking new mothers whether they intend not to return to work for fear of insulting their professional intelligence; or whether they intend to resume work in case they invoke the defensive 'Can't I just be a mother?' reply. I am sure that many women, such as myself, have felt no social conditioning, just enthusiasm for the paths they choose.
