SO SEX between staff and students is a private matter, says the Association of University Teachers ('The undesirable side of academic affairs', 23 May). Are academics too addicted to sophistry to see that seduction by tutor is as exploitative as sex between doctor and patient? If lectureships become lecherships, it will end straightforward friendship between teachers and taught - a foundation of education.
