JAMES DELINGPOLE (Review, 22 November) writes that, "if somebody has a serious acne problem, then the only treatment that really works is long- term antibiotics" - and "as a doctor, he should know". Sadly, they rarely do know; antibiotics are useless - what will work, in most cases, is Roaccutane, prescribable only by a dermatologist. GPs are often ignorant, and often dismissive, of teenage spot problems.
