Letter: British National Party's campaign on the Isle of Dogs
Sir: I can see no evidence locally to support Jack Straw's optimistic assertion that the BNP will be beaten by the main political parties using the normal democratic process ('Main parties asked to let locals fight BNP in polls', 31 March). On the contrary, I can only see their support quietly increasing.
I implore the leaders of the local and national Labour and Conservative parties to support the principle of a united anti-BNP front. The political parties should seize this opportunity to move away from rivalry and point scoring in order to listen to what the local people say.
Yours sincerely,
MARTIN FLOWER
