Letter: Call the police
Sir: On reading Rosemary Bailey's article ('I heard her cries and did nothing', 7 July), I felt my hackles begin to rise as I scanned the lines and felt what a typical attitude she held on non-involvement. I appreciate she may now be reluctantly helping the police in their investigation, but this is one incident that might never have happened had she become involved days, weeks or even months before.
When I spoke with a friend about this particular article, she admitted being under the misapprehension that the police would refuse to act upon anonymous information. This is not correct. Identification of an informant is obviously more helpful but not always essential, and action will be taken upon calls being received.
Please don't pace up and down for an hour wondering why a child is crying or why a heated domestic dispute suddenly stops. If you don't feel able to do anything yourself, please contact someone who can.
Yours faithfully,
