Sir: Michael Steed tells us (Letters, 21 February) that one of the new 'flying' bishops will take his title from Ebbsfleet, where the Pope's envoy landed in AD597. There the similarity ends. The reluctant St Augustine was on his way to London, but when he was welcomed by the Christian Queen Bertha in Canterbury, he knew he was on to a good thing and stopped there.
