Sir: Surely Horse Guards Parade requires a 'French' solution ('Car-free vista 'must go ahead' ', 3 June). Widespread throughout Paris, and common throughout the rest of the country, are vast underground car parks with a pleasant open square or place reserved for pedestrian use at the surface level. This precedent could resolve both problems to the satisfaction of all concerned.
