Sir: Eagle Eye should not mix with the intricacies of Italian grammar and opera plots until he understands both. The aria "Dove sono", after which Maestro Maksymiuk allegedly exited into a cupboard, comes from Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, and in it the Countess laments the disappearance of the Count's affections: "Dove sono i bei momenti" - "Where are the beautiful moments?" So what happened to the soprano in the Bristol concert (Diary, 29 April)? Conductors usually usher soloists out in front of them, so did she finish up in the cupboard with the Maestro, looking for the beautiful moments? We really ought to be told.
