Letter: Co-existence with smokers is in the air

Sir: Banning smoking will not solve all chest problems: industrial pollution, pervasive exhaust fumes, over-heated and over-dry air contribute to unhealthy lungs with or without smoke. Stockport borough council (report, 28 January) could have saved itself some problems by good ventilation - which should allow considerate smokers and non-smokers to coexist. Have you noticed how some pubs seem to be always smoky, while others, just as busy, don't?

Yours sincerely,
