Sir: In his list of humiliating vulgarities afflicting our cities and institutions (11 March), Sir Hugh Casson might well have included the Royal Courts of Justice, George Edmund Street's masterpiece, where coats of arms and the name of the building in hideous Disneyland Gothicletters now flank the entrance in the Strand.
These unfortunately went up without any consultation with the Royal Fine Art Commission but, to the Commission's surprise, with the full approval of English Heritage.
Yours faithfully,
SHERBAN CANTACUZINO
Secretary
The Royal Fine Art Commission
London, SW1
