I was disappointed by the letter from GenderWatch (12 May). Grameen Bank borrowers came up with "the 16 decisions" that they all commit to. These women are the lowest of the low and they want to do better for their families. Surely by providing education for their children they enhance their own position and give their children greater opportunities. It will take time for women's position in Bangladesh to change but I am convinced that micro-credit will be a key factor.
