Letter: D-Day: forget the PR, remember those who died

Sir: What a relief it was to read Alison Veness's words on the deluge of D-Day 'rhetoric'. Each time yet another 'remembrance' or 'celebration' programme looms, my immediate reaction is to switch off.

Yet Alison Veness is wrong on one point. 'Youth should unite . . .' Surely not youth alone? There are a lot of us 50-year-olds out here who agree with Alison and, what is more, if my parents were anything to go by, a lot of the 'veteran' generation who recognise more than anyone else the hollow, false glorification of events that left in their wake untold suffering.

Yours faithfully,

MARY ARNOLD
