PETER MAYLE has committed what to a journalist of Michael Bywater's ilk is the unforgivable sin of giving innocent pleasure.

I suppose the difference is, if Mr Mayle issued a sour and malicious invitation to the couple (so patronisingly called Bri and Sue) to invade Mr Bywater's privacy, they would not be tempted.
