Sir: Elsa Woodward is quite right in saying that the main reason people drive to supermarkets is because they could not possibly carry their shopping home on public transport.
With a family of four and a full-time job, I would be delighted to rid myself of the weekly shopping chore which either ruins an evening or forces me to get up early on a Saturday. I can see one other advantage, even if I had to pay an economic charge for the delivery service. I would be paying only for those items on my list and I would not be tempted by offers, new products or unnecessary treats . . . and that is precisely why large chain supermarkets will not be offering that service.
Yours faithfully,
