LETTER:Description of Chernobyl today was `too comforting'

I WAS surprised to read of the almost complete harmlessness of Chernobyl. Individual instances of malformed births were dismissed as being "normal for Europe as a whole". But the idea that reliable statistics could come from an area beset with a legacy of secrecy, with added corruption, muddle and incompetence can hardly be called convincing.
