Letter: Dinner-party games

Dinner-party games: Who are these people?. You seem to have a penchant for using them as a classic illustration of - what? Typical IoS readers? I think not. The archetypal representation of Nineties progressive society? The statutory accompanying image for articles on present/future social interaction? These friends first appeared supporting the Real Life article on EQ ('You've got the brains but have you got the touch?', 18 July) and the associated theories of social change. Last week they reappeared as if frozen in time with Laurie Taylor's comment piece on racial gaffes ('Thank God I didn't say it'), no doubt epitomising a group of fashionable young liberals. Perhaps this could be the start of an amusing trend: to see how many diverse topics the picture could be pinned to - definitely a dining-in piece in the Review food pages or maybe a party of jubilant GM protesters celebrating a successful day's outing in the field over a meal of organic produce... The possibilities are endless.
