HAVING read Norman Lewis's excellent article 'A most sinister war' (6 March) on events in East Timor, I am not only deeply shocked and sickened at the barbarism prosecuted by the Indonesian army against the people of this tiny country, but find the apathy and inhumanity of Western governments in response to the situation difficult to believe.
What kind of people are those in power who stand back and allow atrocities on this scale to go unchallenged?
