Sir: Far from introducing a tax on graduates, the Government should impose an extra tax on those in executive positions who are not graduates. In Britain we enjoy longer working hours and lower productivity than almost every other European country. Why? Because of the abysmal quality of our managers and executives.
Those who run French and German industries are not only graduates, but also commonly PhDs, with minds trained to get to the root of a problem and solve it. Their British equivalents are by comparision unimaginative and gullible ignoramuses, incapable of long-term strategic thinking, whose aspirations are limited to personal ambition and greed.
Yours,
