Sir; As the violinist who played the Bach Chaconne on a building site in 1971 (letter, 24 February), I recall the occasion very well and am gratified that the strains of my performance are still echoing down the years.
However, one impression needs to be corrected. Whatever I may have been as a young artist struggling to establish himself, I have been, for over 23 years, not an ex-violinist but an ex-builder, as can be verified by anyone attending my next concert (the Elgar Violin Concerto, 31 March, St Andrew's Frognal, NW3).
