Letter: Escape to Stansted

Sir: Sir Michael Bishop, chairman of British Midland, says he has proposed measures to the Secretary of State for Transport to achieve additional runway capacity at Heathrow (Letters, 18 July). Whatever these may be, any increase in flights directly over London poses additional environmental and safety problems. If British Midland, or any other airline, needs extra capacity, Stansted beckons.

Yours faithfully,
