Sir: John Prescott's promise to set up an independent commission for full employment can be of value only if the names of the members of such a commission are announced.

Full employment cannot be achieved in one country alone, not least one as dependent on international trade as the UK. Full employment has to be based on a strong international trading sector. I should know, as I have spent a lifetime in the international trading sector. In a free society, one cannot create jobs by demand.
