Sir: Bryan Appleyard ("The anti-smoking fundamentalists," 8 March) refers to the dangers of passive smoking thus:

This is, of course, a lie. There is no evidence whatsoever of the dangers of passive smoking. It is merely a propaganda device ...

I'm only surprised that Mr Appleyard didn't add that the Earth is flat and the moon is made of green cheese. He probably believes it.
