Sir: Sue Rabbit Roff in her letter (2 August) concerning the lasting legacy of the Hiroshima bomb, quotes the high incidence of cancer deaths for GIs who were in Japan in 1945 and 1946.

Hiroshima was in the zone occupied by the British and Commonwealth forces. Has any research been carried out as to the health of British personnel who served there?

I was stationed at the RAF base at Iwakuni, which was 18 miles from Hiroshima, and made frequent visits to the devastated city.
