Sir: Today we entertained some Japanese friends to Christmas dinner. Later, I telephoned my parents, and my father remarked that on Christmas Day exactly 50 years ago he was in a Japanese troop ship being taken to a PoW camp. Swords can be beaten into ploughshares.
