A POSSIBLE solution to the problem of back-markers in Formula One motor-racing, highlighted by David Tremayne ("Danger: Sunday drivers ahead", 17 September) would be three-car teams. If the eight best teams each fielded three cars, relatively few cars would be lapped by the leaders. Another solution would be to run grands prix in a two-heats-and-final format. The shortness of the individual races would eliminate the problem.
