Letter: German menace
Sir: May I add a footnote to your report 'Germans worried by racist image' (8 October). It is not only foreign businessmen who are apprehensive about the reception they may receive when visiting Germany. The University of Sussex has many students from ethnic minorities, some of whom are due to spend their third year studying in Europe.
In the light of recent events, a number of them feel panicked at the prospect of being subjected to racial abuse during their year in Germany. It is by no means an easy task to reassure them that they will be made welcome by their German university. Meanwhile, the course at Sussex on German-Jewish Culture and Politics is beginning to look less and less like past history, and more like a model for the continuing problems associated with multi-
racial societies.
Yours sincerely,
