We took our summer holidays in August and were only slightly surprised to receive our first Christmas mail-order catalogue before we departed. Today we received a duplicate catalogue from the World Wide Fund for Nature, with a letter explaining that as they hadn't received our order from the first catalogue they wondered if we had lost it.
Quite apart from this profligate use of charitable funds, one wonders whether this move towards ever earlier celebration of Christmas will result in a close-run thing between the first Christmas catalogue of the year and the first cuckoo of spring.
