Letter: GM fallout fears

EVEN OUR present scant knowledge of gene transfer within the complexity of our ecosystem has already told us that genetic pollution will never be controlled ("EU plans for large-scale GM disaster", 4 April). And, there will never be an "unexpected spread" of man-made genes - it has already been scientifically observed. The only possible "methods for decontamination" of areas of GMOs will be by annihilation of the life of the affected environment. Human health cannot be protected after "the occurrence of an undesirable effect", only by prevention. These absurd plans are the best evidence yet for a total ban of GM plants from food and farming.
