Sir: Like some 3,718 others, I was disappointed not to have won acclaim in the children's story competition, and was quite prepared to shout 'foul' and such-like. But what a worthy winner ('Kevin the Blue', 25 June).
Caroline Pitcher not only, as Angela Lambert wrote, managed to combine accuracy and tension, she also injected a very welcome love of nature, and the downfall of the school bully. I have recorded the story, and listening to it I can see 'the brilliant blue sparks . . . like a firework display'. Congratulations to the author - and to the judges.
Yours sincerely,
JOHN A. KEILY
