Sir: Your first leading article today ('Disenchantment in the West') suggests that it was the belief that John Major could best steer Britain out of recession which secured the Conservative victory in April. My limited contacts lead me to think that it was the public's negative perception of Neil Kinnock which caused the defeat of the Labour Party. At least nobody will be able to blame Labour for the current chaos.
