Sir: In north Gloucestershire, young, streetwise (lanewise?) people often use 'Yo' for Hello. 'Catch you later' seems more popular than 'Goodbye'. I even found myself greeting my five- year-old with 'Hey Ben]' - too many episodes of Roseanne no doubt.

By the year 2000, will we all be stepping out of our offices on to the sidewalk? After descending in the elevator, of course.
