Sir: Bill Robinson is wrong when he argues that the tax burden only appears to be high now compared with 1979-80 because that was a boom year.
Even on the Government's own optimistic assumptions about economic growth, the burden of taxation is projected to remain above that experienced at any time under the last Labour government at least until the end of the decade.
