Letter: Highlands facing loss of Radio 4

Sir: May I, through the courtesy of your columns, inform those concerned of one factor of the proposed changes to Radio 4 that has been overlooked or, perhaps, not been realised? By removing Radio 4 from its long-wave band of 198kHz, those living in the Highlands will lose the station altogether. Radio Scotland broadcasts on the Radio 4 FM frequency, as well as on MW 810kHz. Since Radio 4 has been divided between LW and FM, we have been wholly deprived of its FM content.

With the natural tendency of London bureaucrats to overlook the UK populace 700 miles north of the capital, no consideration has been given to the receivers of LW Radio 4.

Yours sincerely,

VERONICA YOUNG
