Letter: How we Hoovered up our free flights

Sir: I am sorry to hear about Ed Hooper's battles to get his free Hoover flight ('My free flight ended up as a long haul', 26 September). My wife and I also bought a Hoover in December 1992. Resisting the attempts of Your Leisure to make us pre- book hotels/cars etc, we were helped by the BBC Watchdog expose of the attempts used to dissuade people from taking up the offer.

Having opted to fly in March 1994, we accepted a flight in mid- February when the offer came through. On a day when Heathrow was snowbound, we flew from Manchester and enjoyed a glorious, sunny, snowy week staying with friends in the Big Apple. Our Hoover vacuum cleaner is still giving us good service.
