Sir: Television and radio weather forecasters seem determined to invent a language of their own. To complement the nouns "fog", "sleet", "mist", "cloud" and so on there are the adjectives "foggy", "sleety", "misty", "cloudy". It is ridiculous to add "-ness" to each of these to give "fogginess", "sleetiness", "mistiness", "cloudiness". Where will it end? Sunshininess? Thunderiness? Hurricaniness?
