Sir: Polly Toynbee ("Who'll bear an unwanted foetus?", 2 February) makes the common error of connecting the Immaculate Conception with the conception of Jesus. It actually concerns the conception of Mary, whom Catholics believe to be conceived free of original sin, in other words, immaculately conceived.
