MAY I suggest that if you must have your political editor write articles about contraceptive implants for teenagers, you should ensure she checks her facts first ("Blair advisers back implants for schoolgirls", 7 February). The hormone released by all the implants, whether under investigation or in use, is not oestrogen but progesterone; and the contraceptive injection Depoprovera lasts for 12 weeks, not eight. A contraceptive injection called Noristerat lasts eight weeks, but it is licensed for use only in limited circumstances.
