Sir: You allege ('RAF broke embargo on Iran, court told', 16 March) that an RAF VC-10 flew military equipment to Iran during the embargo on arms sales to that country.

The allegation is totally unfounded. The last RAF VC-10 flights to Iran were in February 1979, well before the arms embargo. The purpose of those flights was to evacuate British citizens.

Yours faithfully,

ALEX ARMSTRONG

Deputy Press Secretary
