Sir: Having spent 10 years as a nurse, I was saddened to read that I lack the intrinsic idealistic tenderness to make a good nurse, and have only been pretending to care for my patients. I really thought that as a society we were getting away from such stereotypes; after all, no self-respecting Nineties man would dare suggest that women, by their nature, make bad doctors, lawyers, or even, dare I suggest, bad journalists.
Yours sincerely,
