Sir: To suggest, as Beatrix Campbell does that 'the Great Hunger was one of England's episodes of ethnic cleansing in Ireland' is very strange. It was fungus (Phytophthora infestans) that caused the Great Hunger in Ireland in the 1840s. This fungus came from the US and also caused hunger in England and Europe.
