Letter: Jailer bait
AS EVERY Tory knows, prison works ('Americans stunned by Howard's jail policy', 17 October). As every Tory knows, privatised services work better. As every Tory knows, performance-related pay gives better results. So why not combat crime by rewarding private prison operators according to their success rate - the less their former prisoners re-offend the more money the prison operators get. The ultimate goal is a prison with a minimum number of inmates which translates to a maximum profit for the prison operator. Sounds daft? Maybe it isn't]
