Letter: John Ward's sorrow

Sir: Your issue of 1 July reported that John Ward, whose daughter Julie Ward was murdered while on safari in Kenya, has increased his reward for information leading to a conviction, from pounds 50,000 to pounds 80,000. He has already spent about pounds 35,000 bringing the case to court. Will this huge reward satisfy his heartbreak, which will surely remain for the rest of his life?

Would it not be greater to convert the sorrow into a positive enterprise, such as others have done, in order to help some of the many in need? The suggestions are endless and the reward must be greater than bitterness satisfied.

Perhaps Julie, too, would have preferred things this way.
