Sir: I have received a letter from John Major, writing as Prime Minister and Leader of the Conservative Party. He writes to me as one of "the people who have become shareholders in a privatised company". What right has he to pry into my private affairs? Even my best friends do not know I have bought shares.
His letter is two pages of disparagement of Labour for what he thinks they intend to do. However, he ends by saying: "My vision of the future is one in which success is rewarded, and investment in shares encouraged, not punished." Is this the vision I am being asked to vote for? I would prefer a better and broader vision.
