Sir: A minority of cyclists who cycle on pavements are undoubtedly a dangerous nuisance and should certainly be fined (Letters: 20, 22, 24 January), but the majority do so responsibly and for their own safety. In 1996, 203 cyclists were killed by cars and another 3000 seriously injured. Is it surprising that some take to the pavement?
