Sir: Christian Wolmar ('Two wheels good, more wheels bad', 14 June) complains that Labour has not come up with a national transport policy. As explained to him before, as part of John Smith's 'long game' approach to the next general election, I agreed that we should not produce an overall transport policy document until 1995.
In the meantime, we will soon be launching a series of consultations in Scotland, Wales and English regions on how best to meet the transport, economic and environmental needs of each part of Britain. Mr Wolmar will have to bide his time.
Yours sincerely,
